At 7 months, Gary’s belly was starting to feel heavy, but he knew he needed to keep cycling for his body and for the baby’s.
It was through cycling that he had met his husband Clay. Gary and Clay had both been part of the same cycling collective and would often go riding together. For one particular night ride, only Gary and Clay had shown up. Even though they had cycled together many times, they hadn’t really talked.
Riding through the trees with their head lamps glowing, Gary realized he had never met someone with whom he had so much in common. They both loved cycling, enjoyed the outdoors, were both pretty moderate democrats, and both worked in finance.
When they stopped for a drink of water, they parked their bikes and sat down on a log in the woods. Clay reached over and grabbed Gary’s hand. His hand was so warm and Gary was caught up in the moment as Clay leaned in and kissed him.
“I’ve never kissed a guy before,” Gary said. “But I really liked it.” After that night, Clay and Gary frequently went on rides together and after 6 months, they decided to get married.Only 3 months later, Gary felt a little tauter in his stomach, and had felt really off in his rides and had thrown up several times. After finally getting a pregnancy test, he realized he was pregnant with the love of his life’s baby.
